Zhong Shan is the first city in the country to make use of IC card's power in building its medical program. Agricultural Bank issued Medical IC cards to the citizens, and installed UEMM as well as S9000 series POS terminal at various hospitals and drug stores.
This program was launched in August 1999 with 130,000 cards issued. Participant hospitals include Zhong Shan City People's Hospital, Hospital for Women & Children of Zhong Shan City, Zhong Shan Po Oi Hospital, Zhang Shan Middle Hospital and Zhong Shan New Middle Hospital. UEMM now handles over 100,000 transactions per month.
