SPECTRA Technologies & Beijing Ya Da Telecommunication Networks jointly establish Technical Support Centre in providing EDC software and hardware maintenance for Bank of China's Great Wall Card System

HONG KONG, 13 June 2000, SPECTRA Technologies, Greater China Leader in electronic transaction technologies, today announced its strategic alliance with China's renowned bank card system integrator, Ya Da Telecommunication Networks. Under this alliance, the Technical Support Centre (TSC) is established aiming innovative technical support and maintenance program for Bank of China's Great Wall Card System (GWCS). TSC provides both hardware maintenance on SPECTRA Technologies' S9000 series of POS terminals and software support on the series' EDC (Electronic Data Capture) network which enables nationwide real time electronic transaction registry for GWCS.

Leveraging from the TSC, Ya Da purveys front line technical support services to the bank's merchant customers all over the country. On top of software and hardware support, Ya Da will also furnish the bank with professional consultancy on its EDC network design. To-date, over 300 merchants in Guangdong Province have been enjoying the versatility of SPECTRA Technologies' S9000 series of POS terminal plus its EDC network installed by Ya Da.

Being the most dedicated partner of BOC, Ya Da has been working closely with Great Wall Card System on system integration and terminal selection. Lin Zhe, Ya Da's Vice President advised, "With single-focus on card system business, we fully understand Bank of China's need from our partner. Working with SPECTRA Technologies inspires us with new techniques and technical specialties that empower our support service capabilities. By offering world-class services for GWCS with truly efficiency and effectiveness, we raise the standard of technical support services in the country's card business industry accordingly."

In the past months, EDC networks have been widely spread in a speedy manner in the country without taking quality back-end support into consideration. In most cases, system integrators or network builders did not fundamentally withhold sufficient resources including manpower, technical know-how and geographical coverage. Customers in turn did not realise the benefit of technical support resulting in wastage in resources alongside with decline in competitiveness.

Comprehending the importance of post-installation support services to quality systems, SPECTRA Technologies' Sales & Marketing Director, Alfred Hung expressed, "China will be entering the World Trade Organisation shortly; the country's banking industry will be facing unsurpassed competition. We choose to launch TSC at this critical moment because we see the urgency in demonstrating world-class technical support services. Escorting the business development of GWCS, TSC equips BOC with service excellence to stay ahead of competition from around the world."

In the latter part of the year, SPECTRA Technologies and Ya Da will set-up more Technical Support Centres in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chengdu and other major cities accordingly aiming customer satisfaction and express business growth of Bank of China.
