Most of acquiring banks in Hong Kong become the members of China UnionPay (CUP) since April 2004 to provide the CUP acquiring services to merchants. As at October 2004, SPECTRA has been supplying more than 8,000 S9090 POS terminals that support CUP to acquiring banks. According to China UnionPay, during the 'Golden Week' in October, they had recorded 80,000 CUP transactions and the sales amount was 114 Millions Hong Kong dollars, which were 3.2 times and 1.6 times of Spring Eve in January and 'Golden Week' in May respectively. This reflects that CUP becomes a more popular payment tool for mainland tourists.
In Hong Kong, there are over 10,000 shops that accept CUP card, CUP cardholders can just present their CUP card and enjoy shopping with fabulous offers.
