Wong Chuk Hang is located in the southern part of Hong Kong Island. Similar to Kornhill Plaza, which resides at the east of the Island, it took the lead in implementing EMA in its estate or mini buses. On top of cash, residents of these areas can now use Mondex or VISA Cash for bus fare settlement. According to Mr. Chan, the owner of the bus company, EMA is the most cost-effective e-purse solution after carefully evaluating the possibilities available.
With EMA, drivers can preset 5 fare levels through the controller Unit (CU) installed on the dashboard. Since EMA's CU and Card Acceptor Unit (CA) simultaneously indicate payment-processing status via their LCD lights, the drivers do not need to turn his/her head backward for payment monitoring.
Passengers do not need to carry nor worry if they have the right coins as no cash is involved. All they have to do is to insert their e-purse into EMA's card reader, and wait for just 1 to 3 seconds for the Mondex or VISA Cash card to be ejected upon completion of transaction by EMA. They can also choose to settle bus fare for multiple passengers for higher efficiency and convenience.
